Alamo Hilltop
Working with an existing circular driveway located on the only flat area of the property, spaces for outdoor living were designed into the front yard to allow the family to get more use out of what was once a space only for cars. Low retaining walls alternate between stone and concrete, to create sitting areas as well as the backdrop for a water feature that is viewable from the kitchen window. Native plantings and grasses provide a drought-tolerant plant palette to soften the outdoor spaces, which replaced a large, dying lawn area. Mature, sculptural Manzanitas were thinned and retained on the back hillside, giving shape, texture and color along the informal walks.
