The owners of this Mid Century home desired privacy yet interaction with the street, while keeping an established sculptural Hollywood Juniper. Contrasting walls of ground-faced block and smooth stucco were set in a composition of varying heights. The main wall was set at a height that allowed for privacy for the living room and while sitting on the front patio, while allowing for standing conversations with neighbors passing on the sidewalk. A water feature on the inside of the wall creates a focal point and a bit of sound for additional aural privacy. A layering of fencing, clumping bamboo, a smooth block site wall and a border of daylilies creates separation between the clients and the neighbors in the back.
